A review of Chris Hedges' new book, The Christian Right and the War on America. It's an incisive examination of the huge threat extremist Christian fascists pose to a shaky free society most people in the US take for granted but no longer will after reading this important book.

Gary Cass, executive director of the Center for Reclaiming America for Christ, writes that those who opposed Gen. Peter Pace's remarks that homosexual acts are immoral are "neo-pagan atheistic radicals" ["Gen. Pace expressed the wisdom of the ages," March 30].

These kids today are making a disgrace of neo-Nazism. In my day, it wasn't just about mindless hate-we hated because we stood for something. You can't just call yourself the Master Race-you have to act like it, and hold yourself to a higher standard than those you despise and wish to exterminate. It makes me almost ashamed to be a neo-Nazi.

ATLANTA -- The first Martin Luther King Jr. Day since the death of King's widow was marked yesterday with speeches and marchers commemorating the day in Troy, Ohio. They were also heckled by a group neo-Nazi protesters shouting white power slogans and carrying signs.

Since WW2, every Republican president except George H. Bush has lent America's good name to the overthrow of some regime somewhere in the world - often in defiance of our nation's core principle of supporting Justice and Democracy. Just what DOES America stand for?
